I got out for a full day of detecting with a couple buds and our plan was to knock on doors and get on some new land. The first door knock was for an amazing looking site which had not been hunted and was old...and I almost convinced her to let us hunt. She did invite me back in a couple weeks so that she could think about it. No one was home on the next door knock but the third was a success...only problem was the sites had been detected before and they were pretty quiet today. Undaunted we hunted for a couple hours and after a bite to eat went searching for more new land. No one home on the next two door knocks so we threw in the towel and decided to hunt a site we had on standby...and I am glad we did.

After a quick chat with the landowners daughter we were off and hunting. I went right to the back end of the field where there is a patch we hadn't hunted much. At the bottom corner of the field I got a strange and deep signal. I dug it out and saw a cut copper in the dirt. I thought that was weird and checked the hole and saw more cut coppers! Then the first large silver came out and I knew I was on something good...and very strange! All of the coppers are 1864 New Brunswick One Cents! The Silvers are an 1854 US Half Dollar, a Victorian Half Crown, a Victorian Florin and a Victorian Shilling...all in the same hole and buried deep...below the plow line.

My question is why would someone cut up all of those coppers and bend and smash those silver and then bury them? Very strange...but despite the condition I could not be happier...everything is still easily identifiable so I am thrilled with that.

Also found a 1932 2 Ore and an1894 large cent in another part of the field.

Props to Iron Patch for assisting with the British silvers...I texted him from the field!

Maybe a plane crash in 1874,....wait a second that's not possible, lol. Nice finds! While working in a bank in the past have had a couple of strange deposits by customers, one was rolls of buffalo nickels that the lady had purposely scratched the coins/dates up so that no one could ever get more than a nickel for them. Yep I bought them and still have them. Second one was a $500 dollar bill that was owned by someone famous that we would all know in which the bill was heavily defaced with all sorts of writing and dates. I didn't buy that one but wish I had..."I pity the fool"---->me for not buying it. In both cases it seemed that the owner wanted to destroy the coins so that someone couldn't make money off what they had. People are strange.

Very strange but nice finds. I see the Canadian large cent is in good shape.

Just for fun...here is what the coins should look like...

Amazing recovery of a very mysterious cache of treasure! :coins::treasurechest::notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:

It certainly is a strange and wonderful find! Congrats, I hope there is more hiding a little deeper in the hole for you.

What a find!! Coins may be cut and smashed but, still amazing coins with some weird character now? I'd still be flying high no matter what condition they're in. There's still hope there might be some undamaged coins in the cache.
Congrats and Good Luck on more!!

Wow very cool and interesting cache! I would certainly be happy with it!

Steve

Craziest cache ever!! We'll never know why but it's fun to come up with theories. Congrats on an amazing find though!

What are you still doing here ! ! !

? Charge yer shiznat and get back on that property... kiss ass... rake leaves... fix leaky gutters... sweep dog turds for the owner if ya have too.

Ask them if they have a room for rent... A shed you can live in ... a doghouse... sheesh a sleeping bag in a pile of leaves, heh

Amazing, I always think I'm at a point in this hobby and then, "just when you think you've seen it all" happens. Congrats on a find of a lifetime.

Oh and don't forget to bring the longest extension cord you can find...

So to reach the pile of leaves... As to recharge your stuff. :P

Cool & interesting Find !

I can think of Several Scenarios, But :dontknow:

Counterfeit ? or at least Thought to be Counterfeit ?
Caught in a grinder of some Type 1 by 1 & collected over the years
by the Grinder Owner or Operator ?
Used for illegal purposes and Considered dirty Money by the Last person to handle it ?
Stolen & Destroyed out of Fear ?
Stolen & Destroyed out of Spite by someone Holier then Thou ?
destroyed by a very strange kid ? or mental deficient ?
Most likely!

it would be nice to find out why they are halfs i have found a couple cut in half also there has to be a reason

Will go down as probably the most interesting and strangest coin find posted here. A person could theorize if not for the fact it was all found together. Makes no sense.

How trashy is that area buddy? I just bought a GPX and it is stupidly deep. If it's trash forget about it but if it's not that thing will get you down to your armpits

Most likely!

I like this idea…either that or witchcraft…haha! They are definitely legit so if someone thought they weren’t they would be sorry to know what they did…

Boggles my mind...some coin serial killer...but very unique...
