That's in kinda rough shape, but fantastic find nonetheless. You could try rubbing a thin coat of bees wax on it to try and bring out some of the detail. Looks almost like it was out of NJ soil in my area. Story to go with the find?

The story.
I went hunting the usual old property today for few hours. Before I was usually huting close to the main house, but today I decided hunt farther form the house..After couple junk targets, I pulled this baby out of the ground. I knew that I dig out something cool, but tried not to go crazy, and finish my hunting. Going to go through the rest of the stuff later on tonight.

A Chain Cent is really a RARE find, irregardless of condition. Only 36,103 minted if my memory serves me correctly. Is there anything on the obverse? Show us some closeups on both sides. "Banner" find.........Rich

thats a RARE find. Seal it in air tight container and do not attemp to clean. It will fall apart. very important to get in coin holder preferably air tight. congratulations on super find.

I'll stick it in olive oil for now and see if it's going to get any better. Unfortunatelly is in poor condition, but the fact that it is very unique makes me happy.

Excellent find-even in poor shape. Don't clean it. It's a valuable coin even if it is only identifiable.
Missed one by a foot once-my buddy got it.
