I Found Jesus Today and I Wasn't Even Looking for Him!

I found a really big crucifix today on a baseball field (in the outfield). It was standing straight up in the hole and the top of it was about 4 inches down. It's solid brass, 5" high and weighs over 2 ounces! Who the heck would carry a crucifix this large around a baseball field? Weird, but a cool find!

Wow ! I'd sure like to see that cleaned up - I think it's got some age ( possibly 1920's ) I think within Catholic religious orders
Monks , Nuns - have been known to wear large crucifixes . Have you had a chance to research the earlier history of that location ?
Excellent Find !

Haven't you ever watched "Angels in the outfield"?

Sweet find!! :headbang: :occasion14: Don't care what its made from thats outstanding !!! Hope you share with us a picture of the cleaned up version, I might have passed that by as being too big a signal :icon_scratch:

Would love to see that cleaned up ... its going to be a nice looking piece when you do . Congrats

I did clean it up, but it was a flat reddish color. Kind of like the toasted clad dimes and quarters I find all the time. So I decided to paint it brass color to give it the regal look it deserves. Hope I didn't ruin any value it may have had, but it was pretty far gone anyway.

That's a great explanation! That's probably who lost it there many years ago.

No, I just found this baseball field yesterday. The field looks like it was built in the past 10 years or so, but I did find a 1950's cap gun in the woods behind the field (haven't posted that find yet). So it could be a fairly old spot.

As for coins, all I've found is clad. But I did find a really toasted 1957 wheatie five inches down, so there may be hope yet. I'll go there again after a heavy rain and see if I can pull up some older coins. You never know!

Pretty cool find.

That's different! Cool find.

Awesome find  Do you have a grinder in the garage? Put a buffing when on it with some brasso and you could clean that up in no time.

It was standing straight up about 4 inches down? Why would it be standing up that deep? Interesting, Congrats on a beautiful find

Nice digs. I to would of buff, and then maybe a coat of lacquer.

NOW THATS WHAT I CALL A FIND AND THE BEST TYPE.

I think I'd use some paste wax, lacquer will discolor over time.

Yes, it's likely a pectoral cross worn by those in religious orders.

What a great find!

Or...did Jesus find YOU? That is an outstanding find, congrats! Sub :angel10:

This makes me wonder if it wasn't some type of blessing or memorial of some type. I don't know much about those types of pracitices but it is something to look into.
