I found Lady Liberty, she was "Walking" through the woods.... and more....
It was a great day for our monthly club hunt (Metal Detecting Association of the Carolina's) and a big thank you to Jimmy for providing the location of this months hunt. Everyone had a great time.
After searching the yards of two houses and finding a couple wheaties, a few memorials and clad quarter and some odds and ends I decided to head for the woods. Back part of the woods were pretty trashy, so I headed closer to the road, fighting the vines and thorns, and them bam the White's hit a high pitch. I checked it over, VDI 87, label ID Quarter, Depth just under 1 inch. I was feeling it, 2 others had found silver quarters in the yard, now it was my turn, right! Wrong.... After I dug a plug just over an inch, no coin. Checked the whole. Still there? Then I thought, great, just just can slaw further down.... so I dug a little wrecklessly and then there she was, 1941 D Walking Liberty Half. It popped into sight, reverse facing up, (Showing off the 2 nice scratches I put in it) Other than that, it is in great condition. After searching the area more, I went back to the car for some water the to "show off" my find. After a short break, I headed back into the woods, that's when I found the airplane looking car hood ornament, the jeep toy car and a memorial cent. (Thank You Ian for bringing your big shovel into the woods and digging up the plane)
I also some silvery looking thing, doesn't look like button, maybe some sort of bottle cap? (See pictures below) and finally, before I left, I pulled the Sovereign out for a spin, and found the pocket knife in the front yard of the first house.
All in all everyone found some great coins and stuff, and we even had a passer by stop, he just bought a DFX, never dected before and will be joining our club. (bonus, new member)
Happy Hunting.
