it was 1 ft under ground, it definitely is something to do with farming

Look like a "ball" of twine to me, might of been used to string out a fence line to make it straight or any number of other reasons the farmer needed twine for.

Interesting find.. Have you cleaned it up to see what's "under wrap?"

I opened the right image. This item is about the length of a person's leg based on the person standing next to it. If it may be of value, non-destructive testing would be advised. Weigh it to get a rough idea of composition i.e. metal or non-metal or run a metal detector across it. Otherwise, the only other option is to carefully open it up and see!

It only takes a minute to snip a short piece of the winding material off and examine it under a jewelers loop or microscope. The blue piece in the middle can be examined the same way by removing a very small shaving and viewing it the same way. Probably not a stick of dynamite.

Caveat: Beware of explosive and hazmat possibilities.

I'm not sure what the winding is made of, but the way it is wound reminded me of times I have found pieces of fence wire or baling twine in a field and to carry it and dispose of it I have wound it around whatever was handy - a piece of wood or a plastic bottle.

I would tend to agree! However...
The size of the object can be estimated by the right image (click to open) with a person standing near it. This object is about 3-4 feet in length.
