I went back to campus today. Family obligations limited my time so I had to get out early and start swingin. It had been pouring down rain for the early morning, but just after sunrise I was out hopeing to get lucky. The rain held off and in 4 and a half hours I managed to find 129 more coins worth $11.67, a piece of a horseshoe from the old farm that was there before the college, a cheapy heart bracelet, 2 more keys, a 2006 Chuck’s cheese token and a seated dime. When I found the large cent a while back and the old gun part yesterday I was hoping there would be some old silver here and today I found it in the 1891 seated dime.
I bet you think the love I found was the heart bracelet. Wrong!!
About 20 minutes into my hunt at the beginning of my second pass on the grid I was working I got a signal that was bouncing between high tone for coin and low tone for ferrous metal on the CZ 21. Usually that is a nail, but sometimes it is better. I was almost lazy and didn’t dig it, but something said go for it and when I popped the plug I gave it a quick pass with the coil and it was pure high tone. I pulled out the Garrett carrot and found the spot on the side of the plug. There was a chunk of dirt slightly separated from the rest of the plug and I put it on my bucket lid. It fell apart and revealed a grayish disk that I knew from experience was probably silver. It looked weird so I took it to the nearest puddle and gave it a good slosh to get the dirt off and it was the seated dime, but the weird part was the back did not say one dime. It had been engraved with initials. I found my first love token!
Unfortunately the earthmoving to build the campus has mashed lady liberty and partly destroyed the initials. Monograms are first initial, last initial, middle initial so it looks like the middle name starts with C, the first name may be a P or a B, and the last name, the most important to locate the giver of the token is a mystery to me.
I will take it to my jeweler friend and see if he can determine what the monogram reads. I will also talk to my buddy in the college administration and see if he can help me locate the names of the farm owners. With a little luck I may be able to come up with the name of the person who gave the love token.
I am so happy to find my first seated for the year and my first love token. Happy days!
Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things.
