The dirt here has turned to concrete so I decided to detect the shore of a small fishing pond in a public park. The lack of rain has exposed some of the lake bed and it is wet and mucky. First three hits I got were all wheat pennies at least 75 yrs old, By now I'm up to my ankles in muckyness but three out of three hits were wheat pennies.

So i suck my feet out of the lake bed a few more times and Bing! It's quarter hit. Sounds like a quarter hit, reads a perfect quarter hit, so I start poking around in the muck and sure enough I see the bright glint of a silver quarter's rim shining through the glop and took a picture.. Woo hoo!

Then I clean it off a little...

Another Shell Oil game token...they usually signal like zinc pennies but this one hits just like a silver quarter, even in an air test..such are the mysteries of what's in the ground I guess...I hate these things!

Never Found One , Ill take that one as it's my Home State.

I hear everyone on all the trash we dig.

In the woods I hate Shotgun Brass

At home sites -I hate Aluminum , Zinc , & Pewter items that are Dollar Or Half Dollar Size.

Oh well , I get something for it all 11 cents a lb for iron & est 40 cents for Aluminum & Zinc Stuff.

I really don't mind finding Brass & Copper tho. As it was usually something Cool IMO & Worth a little more.

Davers

Congrats on your wheats!

I hear ya! I hate the siding it comes up quarter every time, but my all time favorite thing I hate finding is the little nip caps that are gold colored the top caves in just enough the dirt fills it in looks just like a gold ring in the hole which is what my detector reads it as! Must be some kind of conspiracy!!! Lol!

Yes, I don't remember which beer it was but some time ago one made a brassy colored can and the pull rings were gold colored aluminum. They hit just like gold rings and the little buggers look like one too, untill you get most of the dirt off. I'm old enough to remember detecting before the days of zinc pennies and aluminum screw on beverage caps...when you got a signal just below copper pennies big jewelry was a lot more likely. Found a quarter ounce heart shaped pendant and a crazy looking ate up penny on the same day back in 80-something. The pendant was 12 carat gold, and the penny turned out to be the first zincoln I ever dug.

I used to say when I got old I wouldn't sit around and tell stories of them old days...then some young folks introduced me to T-Net...oops!

they always give that surge of excitement when you see the color, but then turn to a bit of disappointment. still better than a pulltab though

. I am almost to the point of not even digging a VDI of 90 on the ATP!
Does that mean I can have all your silver quarters and large cents when we go on the next hunt?:unhappysmiley:

You get your share and more, Mister! Hopefully we can get out together soon!

I know! I've found over 50 of these darn things over the years! I actually remember going to the Shell gas stations as a kid in the 1960's and getting these after fill ups in my parents car. This is what they looked like when you were trying to win some money back then!
