I have a Sand Shark that needs repair.

Now that Tesoro is no more is there anyone servicing their detectors?

Here is my suggestion Mike, and it is a serious one. Time to let the old girl go. Since the Shark starting biting treasure in the 1990s, beach tech has come a long way. Look into some Simultaneous Multi frequency machines - Minelab XTerra Elite; Nokta Legend; Minelab Equinox line. I loved my Shark, but there are better tools now.

I have fixed two Sand Sharks. I fixed them myself. The problems have been mostly all in the battery holder and batteries. I have also replaced the batteries with three AA penlight Lithim batteries (2800Ma hour, Last for weeks) I used a three penlight battery holder and some foam to hold it in place or just hard wired the holder with leads long enough to remove the holder to take batteries out for recharging. There is not much to the Sand Shark, one IC that is everything and one transistor to drive the coil. At the bottom of the battery holder compartment is a small audio transformer to drive headphones. Give it a check yourself, everything can be removed from the case. One word of caution. clean seals everytime you open it up and lubricate with petroleum jelly. I cannot over stress this enough. I have seen so many Tesoros that have flooded.

Hi Mike, one more thing, those lithium penlights are 3.6 volt 2800 ma capacity. They are same size as AA penlight. You can get them on Ebay, also the battery holder. I admit I am a Technical person. Retired EE... so It is a lot easier for me. I own several metal detectors and keep them all running. But checking the battery connections is not hard, Go slow and watch for broken or rotted wire connections also. (A common problem)

I do appreciate all the input. I would love to acquire a newer multi-freq machine but the truth is my budget prohibits it. I'm a disabled vet living on a fixed income so dropping 2k on a new detector is not really feasible in the grand scheme of things. I also have a Garrett Sea Hunter MK II that keeps me going but I sure like having a back up!
