Yes, end photos would help. Does it have cracks in it, or has it separated? My initial thought was part of a small thermocouple. But it doesn’t appear to be copper. I’m assuming it is iron.

Could it be some type of brush out of a electrical motor ?

They did not say if the long thin part was solid or possibly copper cable, if it is copper cable on the thin part it is a electric motor brush
