I haven't been having much luck with halves so I switched to quarters...

And found this half way through the first box of quarters I've ever done. Still have half the box to go through.

Nice find. I usually find 1965 the oldest date for quarters...

Better start doing quarter before unclehuckelberry empties the source, lol.

Dont worry i wont do that many:unhappysmiley:

Are Quarters being overlooked by even coin roll hunters that silvers are more often then people think because they were so picked through at one point and now no one bothers?

That's a good possibility. I know I've never tried a single quarter box just because word is that they're kinda crummy. It's probably all a hoax. All the top coin hunters merged together to keep everyone quiet about quarters and they're all hitting it big! Maybe I should try a box now haha

I think they are overlooked. Once someone searches a box of quarters and finds a silver quarter/s, people seem to search quarters for the next few days. It seems like the skunk is better to handle on quarters and halves than dimes (probably due to easier viewing of the coin date.

If I could search a box of quarters from my pickup bank, and to my dump bank I would :). I'd dump them and then go back to my pickup bank and buy accordingly

I've done one quarter box and didn't find anything. However, my main purpose was to complete our family's state quarters map so I figured any silver I found was lagnaippe.

I usually see quarters rolled in the clear plastic, so you could pretty easily edge search these for silver. It would probably even be easier than dimes since it is a bigger coin and more likely to pop out at you. I may try a few more boxes just for the heck of it.

It is a very real possibility there are a good number of silver quarters out there since most of us have written them off. If halves seem searched out in your area it may be worthwhile to switch.

I have yet to do halfs =P But I am thinking of trying both! Don't have more then 200$ to work with at the moment. Only 15, got to convince my mom to let me take a bit out of savings ;) Not like this is loosing money really if you ask me. . .
Thanks for the opinion!

See what I mean? I'm gunna try a couple 100$ worth of coins when I return from Vacation. Maybe I can score a silver! I'll let you all know the results.

I never had any luck with Quarters. All I can say if get ready for skunks if you're going to search them. Nice 1943 find.

My problem with quarters is all stinkin Canadians I found. The two boxes I did I ended up with 8 Canadian quarters lol.

I buy quarter boxes from time to time to look for America the Beautiful quarters for my collection. I occaisonally find a proof quarter (CuNi). I have not found any silver yet.

FYI for those that do hunt or will hunt quarters, keep an eye out for the ATB (America The Beautiful) series. Beginning this year, the Mint has decided to offer the first San Francisco business strike quarters. They are only offered direct to collectors at a premium. These will be the keys to the series if not the entire Washington quarter series. The Chaco canyon San Fran quarter has a mintage of approx 600K. Most naysayers say it will be impossible to find in the wild, but they will show up. Already a customer wrote into Numismatic News proclaiming the quality on his rolls that he received. He noted there were 8 in his one roll that he has spent, but feels he already got his money worth out of the extra premium the Mint charged due to the exceptional quality of the ones he kept.

there silver content makes them worth as much as 40% halves.

Not really. The 40%'er is worth $4.11 and the a 90% quarter is worth $5.02. Selling a 90% quarter, you have a better chance of getting melt. Good luck getting melt for a 40%'er.

I hate to give out wrong information, but the premise is the same. The clad ATB San Fran quarters will be the key the series if not the entire Washington series including the silver issues. El Yunque had an approx. 600k mintage. Chaco Canyon is currently at 480k mintage.
