Bounty hunter sharp shooter ultra mag
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
After finding the 1798 draped bust large cent, I went back to the flood control with a new lease on life. Shortly after arriving my detector rang out a steady 25cent at 8". Out popped a large tombac with hoop intact. I picked thru some iron and made my way to the bottom of a big oak and my machine rang out a steady high pitched tone at 6". I dug my plug and out popped this silver coin! All I can kinda make out is a 1780???? Its as big as a dime. I go around another tree and bang! A solid

50cent at 8". I lay the plug over and staring me in the face is a 1818 large cent in what seems to be pretty good condition. Hows that for a few hours in a spot I've always produced in with a bounty hunter? Can't wait to see what an at pro can find!

awesome finds!, id say the silver is a seated dime, but too mangled to tell, still cool as heck anyway!

What a great day of hunting, congratulations.

Nice bit of hunting :) keep it up

cjon455 , the silver can't be a seated dime due to the date - The U.S. didn't start minting regular issue coinage until 1792 - and the seated
series began in 1837 I think .
The silver is most likely Spanish - (obviously a guess - without a closer pic)

Yup. Spanish. You can barely tell. Nice job.

Nice finds! :icon_thumleft: I agree with the half reale silver. You can barely make out the bust.

After further review it does appear to be a 1780 Spanish 2 reale. Not in the best shape but cool nonetheless. Now Id like to know how it got there. If only these coins could talk...lol

Very nice finds ,you lucky DAWG

Thanks all. I can't believe I got a spanish reale for my first silver ever! In southwestern pa of all places!

Nice finds jodee.

You are certainly doing well at that site. I knew you would after seeing the first couple buttons you dug. The silver has to be a 1/2 real if it's about the size of a dime. The Large cent looks to be in great condition. By the way, there is lot's of Spanish silver in Southwester PA. Here is mine minus about 15 I've dug since this picture was taken.

Steve that is some nice silver you got there. I can't believe there's that much Spanish silver around. I'm looking forward to finding my next. I'm starting to find the good stuff a little deeper. I feel like I'm just scratching the surface with this site. Its so thick that I can't even work the whole way around it. Persistence definitely is paying off. I keep going over the same spots and signals seem to pop up where there was none before. I love this sport!
