got out for a bit last night, not too often I have a site I can hit at night. the IH was about 7 inches, and I'm not sure what this chrome looking penny is all about, I could'nt find anything about it. my third palmolive peet token (second in a week) couple harmonica reeds, wooden nickel play token, and something ornamental and old. thanks for looking all. heading to Alabama for a week. no MD :( flying HH

Nice finds.
I'd be careful with that funky looking cent. I used to find a few like that Coin Role Hunting when I was a kid. I asked my dad and he said back when he was a kid, they used to take pennies and dip them in mercury (back when you could buy that at a drug store). Because the mercury is a really dense liquid, it adheres to the penny. Still, I would not handle it too much unless you want to become a mad haberdasher as Dickens would phrase it.

Great night hunt  I've never hunted after dark myself!

main thing is have extra batterys and have one head phone on and one off so you can hear your surroundings and have something handy that has maximum damage control .even in your own yard trash is getting brave these days got up in the early am last week to find someone seeping in our yard swing. told him to scoot to the sound of a mossbergh 835 3 1/2 inch magnum #4 turkey gun. he sobered up stood up peed himself and ran quicker flippin a light switch off .if he would have knocked on the door and asked i might have given him a blanket and pillow. but i love night hunting no one to bug you and ask if you can find higgen treasure or the kids asking can i dig the hole. i usually tell them get your machine out and find something to dig your own hole they both got machines for christmas.

that paints a pretty good picture with that shotgun, hope he didnt pee on your swing. love the night diggin, this is my first year with a MD that has a backlight. combine that with a ball cap that has a headlight built into it that the wife bought me, and I'm all set. the family goes to sleep, and I slip out sacrificing the sleep. got to find a place that has no neighboring dogs (key). stuck in Atlanta due to bad weather, wish I had my gear.

Nice IH penny. Don't the mosquitoes brother you at night...Matt

Night hunting is different and fun, but to be quite honest I do not see any real advantage to it. :)

maybe not an advantage, but if its an available time for me, I'm on it, and I don't feel guilty about not spending time with the famly cause they are all snoozin'. the mosquitos arent bad yet, day or night I'll cover myself in deet if I have to.

the lead stamped token with 22 on it is a railroad seal used to seal the boxcars were you by a set of tracks

There's a few spots that I've hunted at night on the way home from work on 2nd shift. (with landowner's permission, of course). Farm fields and a couple schoolhouse sites. I found it to be pretty quiet and relaxing with not too many looky-loos about, as far as rural land goes.

I made a few trips down to SE Illinois to hunt with people that I know down there.....those guys will hunt until 1 or 2 AM!!! A lot of parks in that area are open 24 hours a day. At one park my tectin' partner was accosted by a drunk punk who went away after the threat of a Lesche to the throat and also finding out that I was standing right behind him ready to to a rear-strangle takedown on him. A few minute later a cop showed up and we thought we were going to be busted for threatening a minor.
but he just let us know that the kid was arrested for harassing a younger girl and mentioned his encounter with us, but that everything was cool and he wouldn't be bugging us anymore that night because he was on his way to Juvie (again)

Other than that night hunting has always been cool for me......it's just common sense on knowing where it's safe to go.

HH,
SgtSki
