I have a really nice, solid, sturdy, and efficient sand scoop for the beach. But, I have one major problem with it. I am using a minelab explorer xs with a 15" coil and it detects my scoop at about 3 feet or more sometimes and i have to hold the scoop behind my back and left my arm up pretty high. This strains my arm after a while. Any ideas on a new scoop or way to not detect the scoop?

thanks,
brian

get some little kid from the beach and tell him ur give him all the pennies u find if he carrys ur scoop,, i still hunt carry a little hand scoop, i know how the extra weight can be,

On the scoops I make, I weld a "D" ring under the grip to clip a dog leash to..... or you could get a surfboard leash.....whatever suits your fancy. To modify your scoop, go to a hardware store and get a D ring big enough to allow you to add it to your scoop handle. Drill a hole thru the handle below the grip, spread the D ring open and then squeeze it back together into the holes you drilled.

Run the leash clip thru your belt loop then thru the loop on the handle end of the leash. Attach the clip to your scoop and it allows you to drag it behind you.....well away from your detector. Plus it makes a track in the sand to show the line you have detected, to keep you from detecting the same sand twice.

If I choose not to use the long handle on the 2 piece scoop I got from Zeke, I'm going to put an eye bolt though the bottom section and a small dog's leash or hook on the belt should work out just fine.

I do like the drag idea.

Looking at your pictures, that would be too close to my detector. It still detects it, even UP.

u have nailed it, and u are right, do not see any this time of year, i hope it warms soon...................

happy new year hermit kinda guy

That's a nice sand scoop.......the girl ain't bad either! Monty P.S. Excellent! Jake, don't look!

yes this seems to be a big problem with the long Handel scoops..especially if you have i PI detector like i use on the beach...i have one that breaks down in three pieces...when i have it all together i drag it behind me...that's all i can do..when its one piece its no problem..good luck...

In the water I drag my huge scoop and since it has a wood handle the basket is about six foot away from the coil. My dry sand scoop has a shorter metal take down handle of metal and I carry it with my left hand with no interference. But I like the hook idea too. I'll make one too.
