What I do, is look for jasperlite (Finely banded jasper and hematite). What I need to know from any of you, is what are my choices in finding a metal detector with a Mineral setting? Are there any newer, inexpensive ones on the market? Thank you, Alan

To date there are no known electronic detectors for minerals of the type you are looking for. Just the mark 1 eyeball.

That's not entirely accurate....an old White's will pickup on hematite with a low tone, rather than a high pitched one when hitting on metal(s)

If you want to take it that far they will pick up on hot rocks also but it's certainly not something that you could set out to find with it. The mineralization it does pick up on is all over the charts and the reason ground balancing and other features were implemented to try to rid you of these garbage signals.

That is because hematite is a forum of iron (hot rock).......
