I need help identifying an old key I found a few of them in my old house but I moved out so that makes it harder, I found the key on top of the door frames but the keyholes were the circle keyholes so the keys I found did not fit in them at all and when I lived there I don't remember seeing any slots were the key could fit. I did some research about the house and I don't know if this will help but the house was a townhouse built in 1985 located in New York. And that's really all I could find about the house. Also, one more thing they had letters and numbers at the top they said: H09 and that's it I've searched the web for 3 hours trying to find the same exact one but had no luck. One more thing about the key, it was silver. If you could help me with this I will appreciate that IMG_20201103_092913.jpg

PEr your story I can only deduce that these keys were for the door locks PRE replacements.

If the house was built in 1985 I doubt it had any doors that used skeleton keys. But possibly they had a piece of old furniture, like a desk or chest that the key went to and they put it above the door for safekeeping. I doubt that you will be able to trace the key without a makers name on it.

True... and I also thought this... then I remembered... that antique doorknobs are highly used and sought.

Find a copper one... $$$

I think it is likely a new key as an heirloom for a toy/metal box?

Hard to tell from the size in the picture, but it could have been a hidden Diary or Jewelry box key left on the door frame.

In case those are not familiar with the term "re-pop"... its short for "reproduction".

Compare key with key in my lock photo.

And... of course it is a modern lock key.
