Man what a fun hunt. Took both machines. Used them both. First went to a spot that I have hunted and dug some wheats and a couple rings. Didn't do good there. Then i went to the field where I found all my I.O.O.F. buckles and big shield. Well now I have an awesome button to add to my I.O.O.F. collection. Button was about 6 inches down under a root It tried to escape me. I wouldn't let it. I got it home and washed it up and gave out a huge hurray....I have quite the I.O.O.F. collection going on here. Well also dug some odds and ends. Makeup case that still opens. Hinge is broke. Also dug what looks like a Carbine sling buckle. I will have to research it a bit more. Not sure. Found the all brass belt buckle as well. If any of you can Id some of the finds feel free. Thanks hope everyone is having a great day. zaxfire69
P.S. If anyone can date the years McLilley & Co Columbus O buttons were made that would be great. I am trying to put a date with all these I.O.O.F. Finds. Thanks

My backmark is the first one. M.C. Lilley & Co. So that would put it from 1865-1882. That is what I have been looking for. Where and how do you guys find this stuff. I yahooed and Googled an still couldn't find anything about the button. You guys rock. Yeah I am really stoked to have found the Three I.O.O.F. pieces I have found. I do believe that these are very late 1800's finds.

Congrats on your Independent Order of Odd Fellows button! I am curious just how many IOOF things you have uncovered. I only have one, suspender buckle circa 1850.

WTG!

My nephew (Drache) as well, except it was a cufflink. Might have to have an IOOF thread going soon.

Found this button today.

I found this heavy brass or copper shield with markings on them. Looks like a lodge marker maybe?????

Found them all at the same site. Have them all in a Shadow box.

The shield is around a 12 inches high and the belt buckle is regular belt buckle size.

I should go get a picture of it and post it here....

Never seen one before. Me like.

buckle is (P-M ) stands for past master most likely --meaning a former or "past" master of the lodge *

ps-- love the "badge"

What kind of site did you find these? Field, Woods or old farm? I am new to relic hunting and would like to know where the higher percentage of relics are found. I would think most are found in fields most likely battle fields.
thanks
ps I understand if you decide not to respond.

Found a link that explains a little more about the buckle:

"...turns out to be a uniform for a Chevalier of the Patriarchs Militant, the uniformed branch of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and dates from sometime before 1936. Henderson-Ames Co., being one of the major suppliers."

So there may still be more parts of it out there!

so the P M stands for {Patriachs Miltant) not Past Master * good bit of detective work there.
