I herd they are now being made in Malaysia and they are having a lot of problems with them. I also was told they are moving the Las Vegas shop out of the country. Any body know what is going on? Or is this just bogus information.

That is what i heard also that they were going to make them in mylasia ?

Even after having a very sour experience with Minelab customer service I still think the Sovereign's are one of the best and will continue use them but I will treat them like disposable lighters. Something goes wrong with mine I salvage what parts I can and buy another used one.

You made a good point crazyman. Thanks 4-H.

Well there goes the e-trac I was going to order this week since I am back in the USA now! Thanks for saving me my money.

Hi All :
The Mfg. of the E-trac is done now in seveal locations and the assembly has been in Ireland on most of the models. They are moving to Malaysia as stated but the Las Vegas Shop is moving to Chicago, Ill. to better serve the country as a whole. There are currently back order issues with all the moves and catch up on track now. World wide demand is great for all their units but am recieving back ordered units and they are following through with promises on timing. The gold rush overseas has really depleted the gold units especially the high end GPX 4500 and large loops all over the world. They are still quality units and the finds with them are amazing. Thanks Hardrock

You said the same thing on January 9th! If you have an axe to grind, get it over with but don't try to add credence to silly threads by stating you've changed your buying decisions because of them.

On January 9th you were buying an F75 because customer service at Minelab was reported poor. I wonder where those circuit boards are printed? If paying $1200 to an American company for a $1200 under achieving detector is your decision, well, good. Why troll the Minelab forums then?

http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,317716.0.html see if you can do this with your F75...

You're just being a guy in the back of the MOB egging people on. The things that have been said have little basis in fact. I guess you didn't buy the XT705, and not the F75 and now not the E-Trac.... it's a White's for you.

Times change and we are talking about over priced toys!

Really? You felt it necessary to post your dislike of said "toys" based on a non-American company manufacturing outside of the U.S.?

but one ting to say take a ride on my finger wise guy/s!

Must be a generational gap there because that just sounds .... I don't know

Shambler, you guys have been conned buy these detector company companies for years now and must like being screwed! I don't like breing Screwed and say my piece about it so then you get upset with me becasue of Pride, just maybe some day you will get smart and figure it out

You don't detect do you? I've owned five detectors spanning three companies. It's not a lot of course but three of them were assembled in America. It happens that none of those excelled at detecting finds under difficult conditions (any metal detector can detect a silver dime at an 1"). This has nothing to do with pride. I want the detector that is easiest to use and finds the most fun things under difficult conditions. That one happens to be from an Australian company. Bad mouthing and "surmising" that the company is going down the tubes isn't going to help them restructure in a way that benefits this community.

iv been detecting from 1968 till now and owned about every detector made..some good some not so good but i will say of the 100 or more iv owned the Minelabs were much better than the others.to date iv never had to send in not 1 detector for repairs, and i hunt about 5 days a week..iv owned 1 Advantage , 2 X2a's , 1 Elite,4 GT's and 5 Excal's..the last 2 were Excal 2's...today my NEW Excal ll will arrive iv had on order from Dec 09. i know its from the new plant so i will see if there are any changes in performance or quality. im NOT brand loyal,i buy what works the best for me and have no problem giving my opinion good or bad. would i like to buy only US made stuff,,,yes,,, but only if it is better than what i can get elsewhere! this is the only hobby i have and the only one that has paid for itself many times over. iv got an old Sovereign Elite that i wouldnt sell for $1000,yes its just that good! better than all the GT's iv owned. so today i will charge the battery on the new Excal and hit the beach tomorrow. lets just hope it power's up.LOL!

HOLD UP EVERYONE

Minelab is NOT moving to M-sia
Some electronic parts are built there just like DELL, HP and other reputable firms by a company named plexus http://www.plexus.com/ <--------LOOK
Minelab is actually building a new warehouse in Chicago as we speak to better serve us East coasters! Minelab, I assure you is going to be getting better and better as time goes by.
So, please help me by explaining this to the consumers.

The info I have just shared is fact.
Thanks!

So they are just switching parts suppliers? Where are they building the actual detectors?

Some people really do not realize or want to admit that most technology parts (boards, chips, etc.) have always been made in Asia for many, many companies (Dell, HP, Microsoft, First Texas, White’s, Garrett’s, Motorola, etc.) regardless of where the equipment is actually assembled. Plexus (www.plexus.com) has manufacturing plants all over the world and Minelab does use them to assemble "some" machines. We also continue to use our expanded plant in Adelaide, Australia to manufacture and assemble machines.
It's all good folks Minelab is taking over North America!

4-H, Sooooo, then they are not going to be manufacturing and assembling detectors in Malaysia. Now I'm really confused. Have you ever thought about running for political office? Don't you think this all could have been avoided if Minelab would have explained this to their loyal customers and even dealers. They have set back and let the rumors and misinformation run like a wildfire on the forums and now they want you dealers to clean up the mess for them. Now with that said, best damn detectors there is. At least in the past.

4-H, I wasn't trying to be disrespectful in my last post and I know you have no control on how Minelab does business. It all comes down to customer service and Minelab could have at least put something on their website or have representative post something on the forums to ease all the speculation. They don't have to go into great detail about parts and components and where they are made. Just something like this........

To our loyal customers. In order to save costs and stay competitive in our pricing blah, blah, blah. we are moving parts of our production, blah, blah, blah. During this transition period production will be limited on certain products (?) and parts (?). We ask for your patience and assure you that Minelab as always is committed to producing the best detectors and the most cost effective product to our customers blah, blah blah.

Toyota won't loose a large part of their customers just because of the problems with their brakes. They will loose them because how they handled that problem.

This is what is written on the UPC (bar code) sticker on the box with my E-Trac:

Designed by Minelab Electronics, Australia
Assembled for Minelab Electronics, Australia
under contract by subsidiary of Plexus Corp. USA.
Made in Malaysia
E-Trac US

I haven't found any marking on the exterior of detector that indicates country of manufacture...

Very pleased with my E-Trac.
