It had all the right sounds.
It’s marked pat and sea bury.
I found it near a lot of CW relics.
Any idea?? image.jpg image.jpg

From the looks of the angle or taper on the right photo and a through hole it might be a old insert that is used on a lathe for cutting material.

[FONT=&quot]This is the only picture I could find. I 'pushed' it a little in a photo editor to better show the rectangle in the lid.

It is not corroded nor was it rusted. I’m thinking brass.

I recognize that it is brass. I looked for info on what type of insert might have fit in that space (if it is a space) but I found almost nothing. I'm just providing possibilities...

If you're finding CW relics around it, I feel it's more likely part of a period tea kettle than a part from a late 19th C Naval artillery piece. :dontknow:

Yeah I was thinking the same. I believe this would have been Hood’s Unit camped on that hill. But the union did charge and I believe they also took the hill. I’ve have a call into an old school machinist. If it is a bit he’ll know. Thanks again

Lathe tool would probably be made from tungsten carbide. would be very hard. brass would be soft. you could try to scratch it possibly.
