I had a big appointment this morning with a potential client. As I was leaving in my suit and tie, I noticed a common old smokehouse on the side of the road. After snapping a photo, I turned around and saw a beautiful site. An old farmhouse covered with ivy! Of course I spent time when I got home doing some research and found out a bit about the old house. It turns out that the remains of the smoke house has a date stone of 1701, as does nearby barn ruins. (I did not see a barn. It may be long gone.) According to records, the house probably dates to 1740-50, which means it was not the original structure.
No doubt I will be retuning once I find the owner of the property for permission!
