I scooped up ash from Mount Saint Helens when it blew, and put it in a little jar very similar to the one on the right. The volcanic ash was a very fine powder, like talc, but grey like in the picture. If it's real flaky, it might be... human cremation ashes.

I also grabbed ash from St. Helens. Who knows what these are from, but commemorating something I'm sure. Perhaps with a little research, you could find out. the old bottles are great!
