I use to hate the old coin counters

I went through a skunkie box of halves on lunch. I took it to one of my dump bank banches I have not been before. The coin counter only counts $100 halves at a time then they have to dump in a bag(slow going). They dumped for the first time and I heard that fine tuning fork. I asked the teller if I could buy some out of the bag. He said thay are almost all of yours. I said that is ok I heard something. The another teller started to help him with by looking in the bag. That is when I asked if I could buy that $100 bag. They said yes. He gave me my dump money and the bag. I saw a 40% right away with a bunch of small coin. I asked him if the coin machine counted the small coin as halves he said no. I went through the bag and found 16- 40%'s and 2 - 64's and I took out 2 -2004 year my oldest daugher was born. It had 18 small coins so I thought I was going to be $9.50 short but that was ok with the score. I took the the bag to another banch with a coin counter in the lobby and it totaled $92.22! I was very pleased.

For whatever reason, I think that some coin counters dump at least some rejected coins into the half bag. Thats the only conclusion I can come up with. I've had it happen to me on more than one occasion. I'll get a bag of halves from a machine and there will inevitably be a few tokens and smaller denomination coins in the bag as well. Almost always the half dollar count comes to exactly what it was supposed to be and the other coins/items were just extras. For example the last bag I bought was supposed to be an even $1000. It had exactly 2000 halves in it...as well as $0.98 in other assorted beat up coins (3 quarters, 1 dime, 2 nickels, and 3 pennies) as well as 4 or 5 batting cage and car wash tokens.

What do you with the tokens?

Well, there's nothing you could really do with them other than use them if those places still exist. You could maybe put them up for sale at a discount on Craigslist.
