I got a really early start this morning to beat the heat. On my way to a site that I was going to detect I drove by a vacant lot that I've detected before and noticed that they had cleared out some brush. I thought I'd give that cleared area a try now that I can get my search coil over it. Right off I popped a couple of Indian Head pennies and a couple of wheat pennies.

As I was digging a target a guy from the house across the street walked over and asked me what I was doing. I told him that I was searching for old coins. He asked me if I was doing any good. I told him, not really because I've detected this vacant lot years ago. He told me that the house that was there was built in the late 1800s. He asked me if find a lot of old coins and I told him that most of the sites have been detected to death but I do pretty well if I get permission to detect a private yard. He asked if I'd like to detect his yard and I said YES! It was built in 1903. I get lucky sometimes. LOL

I ended up finding 5 Indian Head pennies, an old token, and 16 wheat pennies including a 1912d and 1916 before finally getting my search coil over some silver. I just knew if I kept at it I'd likely find a barber coin. It was my last dig for the day, a 1916 Barber dime. Not bad for a super small front yard.

It's awesome when detecting life throws a curveball like that and you end up with a new permission and some great coins. I especially like the Barber!

Nice coins Tabman. Your permissions seem to "gravitate" to you. Now that's the way to do it. You don't even have to door knock anymore.

Thanks! I've never doorknocked for permission to detect a yard because I don't like people knocking on my door trying to sell me something. I'd rather catch them outside or just walking by instead.
