I was told the same thing on a civil war site, then found a box plate. Looks like that site is only hunted out until the next rain. nice finds and frames, thanks for the view.

If that field has been hunted out what must it have been like! Thanks for the show.

I have never found a site that has been hunted out unless it was dug and sifted from one end to the other. You can never find all the artifacts by surfaces collecting or digging random holes. When it get's plowed or rained on for a long time, new finds will find their way to the top. Great finds:thumbsup:Thanks for posting.

Are you serious!? That's just crazy- all that! I've never believed that a spot could be completely hunted out. Dry spell, perhaps, but not hunted out, as they say. Nice work! And thanks for the show- + hope you're documenting all that stuff! Yakker

All these were found in same spot . Actually I keep going back to this spot ,only place I found so far that after a good rain ,the artifacts keep coming! Question for you , when you say documenting ,what would be the correct way to go about doing this? I know were they were found in about one square acre and I keep them all together and don't mix them with other site finds.. Thanks

Hunted out is a good laugh. I've been told the same about certain spots. You know if a shelter can produce finds dig after dig, a five acre field can never be "hunted out". Literally, one has 12,000 years of artifacts in some fields.

I usually think two things when someone tells me that..
1) YES! I don't have to worry about that person
2) how does that person usually hunt.
Then I take it from there.
I once had a person tell me.." its just a pottery spot" that was a good one!

Lol! I always think the same things. If a land owner tells me his place is hunted out, I figure that's his polite way of telling me "keep out".

That could be but you have to give the person the benefit of the doubt in that case... I really think a lot of the time the people really think there's nothing left.. One of my best spots was given to me like this. I had no previous knowledge of the spot and was just told in passing by someone about some spot that used to be good until it was all hunted out..
This is just one of the things I found there

OMG! What a pile of beautiful abo history right there GK. I'd LOVE to find even one of those. :) Thank you for sharing them with us. lb

Thanks Larry. My word to you.. Keep walking walking and more walking... In all the 154 acres on this land , I walked about 48hrs before I found the camp ..most of its plowed nursery fields.. For some reason they plant flowers in between the trees in some areas. I'm thinking mabe to keep the frost off of the roots in the winter time, my guess anyway..good luck!

...Wow...guess you're right about that!

Well Gator.... You may have actually finished that spot off. It went out with a bang if that is the case. Lol!

So far as documenting goes, all I really mean is that such things- in such a concentration, shouldn't be put in a box to be found, one day long from now, with no explanation of where they were found. Even general notations are good. It's the 'nothing at all' that really kills folks trying to investigate where artifacts were found. Anything is better than nothing when it comes to documenting where things are found. One day, it'll all be important. In fact, it might be important right now, who knows? I'm no archaeologist. I have a 'key map' where all my stuff is pinpointed to 'areas' small enough to matter. Not being a digger- and only a rescue-finder, my found artifacts are washed out or in on the shore-line. I can't do more than that w/o the aide of professionals. Doing a GPS tag on every artifact isn't a bad idea, but, I think when you do that, you open yourself up to internet/all-seeing eyes. JMHO Yak

Thanks Yakker , I also have never dug for anything, all surface finds.. But were this camp is there's a long stretch of unplwed field ,then it slopes down a dirt road to river.I'm feeling there is some good stuff there..may start in the woods and work my way back to the known camp..
