What's new

I wouldn't call this my best find, but it is when I didn't use a detector.

Detector(s) used
All Garrett: Ace 250 (two), AceApex, VX-9. Have owned just about every Garrett ever made. First three detecter I made myself, with the first one in 1962.
Yes, I know what it is. It's Thai, and it's a 1 Baht. Like our nickel, it is 20 to a Thai dollar. I found it in the street by my mailbox. Value? About $150 to $200 depending on the rating.

Without wishing to belittle your find, I'm confused.

There is no "Thai dollar". The baht is the largest currency unit in Thailand, divided into 100 satang.

Yours is dated for the Buddhist year 2533 (=1990 in our calendar) and produced in base metal (cupro-nickel). 'Numista' values it under $1 (US) even in uncirculated condition. Other catalogues may put it a little higher, bur certainly not as high as $150 or $200.

I note that the very same photograph you posted is used by the Esty seller 'MonedasOrt', where it is incorrectly described as "vintage from the 1980s" and with a completely unrealistic price for such a common coin. I am not providing a link to the offering in order to not offend TreasureNet rules.

I'm not a coin expert much less than a foreign one. One of my friends who spent three tours in Thailand during the Viet Nom war is the one who gave me the information. I know there are 20 to the equivalent Thai dollar, so there it is about the same as our nickel. He called it a Baht, but I might have misunderstood him. Apparently you know more than I, which isn't saying much.

Again, all I know is what I found on-line. Nonetheless, it is more money than I had before I found it!

So, that's not a picture of the coin you actually found? You just lifted it from someone's Etsy listing (which has a ridiculous suggestion of value)?

Your friend also misinformed you. To repeat again, there is no such thing as a "Thai dollar". At current exchange rates, 1 baht is around 3 US cents (not 0.03 cents as said in post #5), so 20 baht would be about 60 US cents.

Just lying in the street?

.03 is 3 cents, maybe it is different in England, but in America .03 is 3 cents.
