Found near old orchard. It looks like a bird leg band, but doesn't have a slit to open/close over a leg. Numbers read 52 (oriented sideways) and G19041 with a NP symbol then an A. It appears to be aluminum. uploadfromtaptalk1360778332520.jpg uploadfromtaptalk1360778352036.jpg

I think you found a pigeon leg band. I've seen images of non-split ones, although I don't know how they were put on.
See if this chart makes any sense with your band:

HOW TO READ THE PLASTIC OR METAL IDENTIFICATION RING OR LEG BAND
The letters on the band will tell you the origin of the bird. (EXAMPLE BAND BELOW)
Say... the band number reads, NPA 7 07 AT 1089
The ( NPA ) means it originated from the National Pigeon Association.
The (7) is the band size.
The (07) is the year the pigeon was born.
The (AT) is the band alphabetical sequence.
The (1089) is a unique serial number for identifying that individual bird

1952 that poor bird is way over do.

:laughing7:

most likely Born in 52 unless it was a special band for a race.
I'm Not sure how old a pigeon would have been before it was considered trained.
but I'd say it was lucky if it reached 1954

I emailed the NPA and they said the bird was born in 1952 but their records don't go that far back so they couldn't enlighten me with more details. They also failed to tell me that it was worth 10k.....so I assume it's just another hole dug with no reward. Oh well, learned way more about pigeons in the last two days then I ever cared to know.
