Hi all saw this metal detecting. I know there have been marine fossils found there, do you think its something like a clam? No other pictures sorry, I just took the one pic and kept swinging for nothin but wheats lol

What you're seeing is the cast of a depression a Trilobite made in "digging" itself flush to the bottom for protection.

Thanks guys! I didn't think people found trilobite fossils in California, but your description makes sense. Maybe I'll see something else next time I make it that way

I snuck onto Cargill's plant at Portland Point on Cayuga Lake and found a beautiful enrolled Phacops trilobite. Darned if I can find it now (or in the last 15 years). It kills me that I can't.
