I am a digger of stone, bone, coral, and shell.
Do we think this is a pendant or an ax that was never sharpened? It was from the Parker collection and found in Putnam county TN. The preform came from the same site in the same spot at the same time. But this stone piece just blew me away. I just got the box today from a super dealer friend of mine who I really want to get up here. He is a great hunter and better source :)

Preform for a pipe with the bowl end missing? Just a thought - Interesting piece.

We need to see pictures from both ends and from both sides please.

It doesn't look thick enough to me to be a Pipe preform, but it may be a Bannerstone Preform that has one end broken off.

No breaks. Polished heavily except for what appears to be dirt and placement scratches. Otherwise all sides are done and polished.

After looking at the new posted pictures, I ain't really sure. But it is interesting still. Good luck!!

Could you give us a clearer picture of pic 3. I am looking close where the drill hole would start and it looks like there is a circle there in that picture but cannot be sure as it is blurry. I'm troubled at the side of it though. There is patination on the blade face except at the center of the blade and the opposite side looks ground down. To me it looks like someone was messing around trying to make something with it. There is a patination variation at both ends that is more modern done then the rest of it as there is no patination on it. That is my take on it. If the patination was consistent I would think it was possibly a hoe.Could be the picture quality not sure but I am thinking I'm right........ Wish I had better info for you..................GTP(Chris)

I will shoot it with a Nikon and lights tomorrow.

It is an ax. I showed it to two people. The patina is the same all over and there is no evidence at all it was worked more than the day it was made. I will have it papered. The problem is that if there are not three of something that more than one guy papered, you can have a hard time papering it. But I will show it to university people here and in Gainesville if I have too. It is very very cool and it is from a proven source.

Sorry, but I don't see an Axe or even an artifact. I see a piece of Ironstone or possibly Limonite that has eroded into that shape and not an artifact.

You might all be right for sure. But I have not ever seen something like it. And feel something made by man.
