I'm am unsure of the origins of this artifact. Appears to be North American native. Beaded stick, approx 21 inches long. Stick is wood, with one end having a carved out hole, through which leather straps have been strung.

Any ideas or thoughts on what this could be or what was it's use?

I have no idea but it's awesome! Thinking it might be a drum stick but not sure how old. Someone will come along in a bit and I'm sure they will know something about it.

A similar on ebay called a drum/dance stick. Being beaded would not encourage alot of drumming, most have leather or another material at end to strike a drum.
So perhaps its ceremonial more than utilitarian. Being fully beaded and not having a "flapper "type end keeps it from wanting to be a horse quirt which wrist lanyard suggested at first. Unless what I,m guessing is a wrist lanyard has two straps instead of a loop, that would mean I,m looking at wrong end as hand hold.l.o.l... Just guessing.

at first look i see a stick for a big pow wow drum but i don't think it would hold up
so i think coup stick or something ceremonial

Design looks African, not NA to me. A lot of beaded items come from Africa and even further east.

that is very true, the design of the pattern needs to be identified.

I was thinking African when I first saw it but I dont have much knowledge in that area so I could be wrong.

I do not recognize any of the beading patterns as belonging to any Tribe I've ever studied, but it appears to be a ceremonial dance stick.
