Thanks for the suggestion! I hadn't thought of that. The shape of it looks different from the flask levers I've seen online though. The ones that look similar appear to all be straight, not bent in an "L" shape.

I should also add that circular portion on one end of the thing has a crumbly substance on the inside. Looks and feels like cork I think
Possibly a thumb key off of a powder flask.

Not sure that’s an intentional bend, that would be a terrible spot to set a screw or a nail to fasten it, guessing the hole was a weak spot or they may have even bent it trying to tear it loose
My theory had been that it came off something like a clarinet, and the hole served merely as a pivot point that would allow the key to lift up when the finger hold was pressed down. You can see in this picture that some of the keys here appear bent in a similar way. Looking closer at the item though, I think you guys might be right that this thing's been badly bent. I can't see any stress marks or cracks on the metal where the bend is, but that hole is in an awfully weird place for the bend to have been intentional. I'm glad I came here. Y'all are changing my view on what this thing might be! Thanks!

I hate it when I type something then go back read it later and go what the heck was I trying to say....Sometimes we are, our own worse critics!

Very interesting! That one key that appears straight looks just like mine if it was later bent. What kind of instrument is that?
It also has a hole right where yours has a hole, right?

I have to say that all the keys I looked at didn’t have the pivot in the bend and most were more like a cylinder below the rest of the piece… I just can’t see how you could make it pivot but I also have no experience with any wind instruments so maybe there’s just something I’m missing

I just wanted to add here, since I realized I hadn't done so yet, thank you everybody for your suggestions. Right now, it appears to majority of people think this thing came off some kind of woodwind instrument, which is what I originally suspected, but other people came up with interesting alternatives as well. I appreciate everybody's contributions and insight.
