if you could be a part of the original gold rush in your area would you?
if you could go back in time and be apart of the original gold rush or your area(or any area I guess) would you?

for me its a no, I don't wanna get killed over gold or for my claim or have my cabin ransacked
I know it would be so cool to have a chance at going into Georgia before it was heavily hit and mine deposits with huge potential unseen today
but I also don't wanna go broke

so what do you say and why?

It would have to be 1960. Carlin Nevada. I would stake claim over the carlin trend. Could just sell it and be set, but It would be better to lease it out and get paid royalties in gold.

Moose...you have a time machine. Go back to 1872 and stay for a year or two and return on the same day you left. Tell the family you had to go to the store and come back with a beard and many sacks of gold, she will be ok with this, trust me

Sure, but I get to cherry pick my spots from present knowledge, arrive at least 50 years before anyone else, purchase a chunk of land, burry the vast majority of the gold on it and zip back into the future to un-earth it, but not the present and sell it a couple years ago when it was almost $2000 an ounce. Heck yeah I would go!

Oh, also no aging, I hate aging.

Just think about the consequence's though, if a time traveler depleted gold rich area's before anyone got there, there would not be a huge number of towns that exist today!

A person could do this even today! just move to Alaska! theres so much untouched land there that you wont see anybody for a long time except for a occasional bush pilotand bears/wolves/ETC

Nah. This is a hobby for me. I get to leave behind the stress of modern life when I go out on a prospecting adventure. If I find something - cool. If not, I still get to stomp around in a stream, play with my metal detecting gadgets, see some crazy geology, hike to someplace seldom seen by other people, etc. I would probably take it too seriously if I were a 49er.
