Hi all,
Hope everyone is having a great 2018! The Michigan weather allowed me to start the new season a few weeks ago and I thought I'd share some finds from the last few days. My second hole of the season was a 1946 Rosie so I was hoping it was a good sign. The first IH is an 1884 kinda crusty. The Barber dime is an 1899 and the same hole produced a nice early machine-made swirl marble. The coin has a circular mark on the front and is slightly bent. The spoon handle looks to be early coin silver with hallmarks. Yesterday, I uncovered another marble in a hole with nails.. it's an early hand-made swirl...somewhat rough. In addition to that I found a couple more Indians... an 1874 and 1906. At first I thought it was a key date 1871 but after cleaning it up I saw it was a 4 and not a 1...still a lower mintage year so I was happy.
Goal this year is twofold: dig as few zincolns as possible and less nails. I'm doing well so far on the first but those deep square nails continue to fool me.
