Over the years have been hitting an old state hospital that operated from 1931 until 1965. It's about
50 miles from my location and decided to take a nice fall drive and check it out again.

Each trip would always be good for a few silver dimes and quarters and a bunch of wheat's, nothing
fabulous but always an interesting day. The neat part was that many of the old buildings stood abandoned
and security and police did not give you a hard time if they saw you were detecting around the buildings.
You could go into them, sure they did not want you to do that, but it was interesting.

My last trip was last winter and about 10 buildings were empty, today only one remains. They are pulling
them down and building houses; businesses have purchased some and using them, messing up the area
with new landscaping.

Areas where they tore them down and still empty lots are just full of trash in the ground. Tough working
it. Only came away with about 45 cents, 2 wheat's and one silver dime.

Still are some areas that I hope to hit someday, but it will never be the same. Glad I took a bunch of
photos on my visits, it was really something to see, like an abandoned city.( had a patient population of
just over 8,000 patients at one time.)

Did come away with a special find. Not detecting. Someone must have been in the last building shooting
photos and left a tripod. I now have a new tripod for my camera.

all have a good un..........

Looks like a really cool place! ?I found a tripod in second grade at recess in a field still in the box and turned it into the teacher, being the good kid I was / am. ?Never saw it again, still wonder if the teacher took it home! ?:)

?I love old places like that you have there!

Excellent place to hunt Sherman,

we have one here in MI that was shut down approx. 15 or 20 yrs ago but, it's too far for me to drive for a day of hunting. It started as a nut house back in the early/mid 1800s, and is spead out over 100 acres of land with at least 25 buildings.. Most of the old buildings still stand except for 3 of the very large ones that were torn down to make room for a hospital.. It is a creepy place to hunt (as I have been there 2xs over the years while on vacation) and it's totally abandoned and the buildings are all Gothic Victorian style.. It is so huge that a guy could detect only that property for a life time, and never need to detect anywhere else (the property has it's own numbered streets & signs for blocks & blocks - I believe something like 6 blocks square)!

I'll try to find some pictures of it and post them later!
