I'm a millionaire!!!

While scrounging through some old boxes today I came across a big pile of foreign coins and some paper money that I had totally forgotten about. These were given to me almost 50 years ago, and I thought they were lost. They didn't even turn up 5 years ago when we moved, so I was shocked when I came across them. The pile included 17 of those 100,000 marks bills from 1923 Germany. They're kinda cool but pretty much worthless. There was an old joke that said if you left a wheelbarrow of these around, thieves would steal the wheelbarrow and leave the money behind. I guess the best find in the pile were the approximately 20 silver coins, mostly Canadian and Australian. There were also 4 late 1800s to early 1900s British pennies. And the most interesting were these 2 huge German medals or medallions. Don't have a clue what they're about, but they weigh a ton. Anyway, it was fun to go through these and see them again, and I still can't for the like of me remember who gave this stuff to me.

Cool stuff, no fair on the title lol

Really nice bunch of stuff.

Good thing you found them. It's always great when something good reappears.

From my experience I know that German paper money used when Hitler was in power is valuable. The people made their own money. Had some but it got stolen. Now I know why. Keep it safe!

You still see stamp dealers putting older commemorative stamps on letters as postage b/c they can buy them at less than face value. A bit odd seeing a letter arrive in the mail with a dozen stamps on it from the 40s and 50s. Some of the old definitive series stamps have some value, but I have not kept up with prices. I think stamp collecting is sadly fading away. I have been collecting US and International since I was a boy. Like detecting, you can learn quite a bit from stamps. It's a shame that like US coins they don't know how to make beautiful ones any more. The older engraved issues that were typically part of a series were beautiful.

Yep, I've seen that, too, on e-bay. Lots of 1980's stamps (22 cent) coming into my mailbox lately from a lot of dealers. Pretty funny that the biggest value 30 years later in the stamp is the face value of the postage... My old collection seems to be getting less and less valuable. .. whereas my 1800's coins get more and more so.

I love it! It's great seeing this stuff. Thanks.

Great re-find! I recently acquired a lot of those inflated German notes, a couple in the billion-dollar mark. If only!

Yeap, they wallpapered their houses with it as well, as a cheaper option.

Will you take $1.7 million marks for that hammered gold coin :laughing7: ??

Awesome re-find Bill! Throughout my moves I have misplaced and rediscovered things I had long forgotten about and its a lot of fun to go through that stuff again. Recently I found a box that had been packed up since the late 90's with lots of stuff I forgot I even had. There was some silver half's, dimes and silver foreign coins in there.

That's a funny story bill. Once I found a few 1000 dollar bills from the First Bank of the United States. My grandpa willed them to me. Thought they were US tender! Dogh! Lol.

Nice re-find! Those are huge!
I bet you could sell those German notes.

It's nice knowing a millionaire! Lol! Don't spend it all in one place!

I like those old Large British Pennies.
