I'm Back!! 2012's First Civil War Eagle Plate...

Well, after not posting for quite a while... I am posting my finds again starting this year. I went out for an hour or so this evening w/ my 10 year old on "Shovel Duty. We hit a freshly cut yard at an old house site. I dug a few modern trash items.. some 9MM cases.. and then got a powerful blast of a signal. I scraped the top layer of dirt away. The dirt is nice and soft and I flipped this out with the side of my boot!!! ;-) It does not get much better then that AND a great way to start off the year!!!! I also dug the suspender clasp, small buckle and the long piece is silver, maybe a ring at some point?? or part of a brooch. We didn't even really hunt very much.. just a quick scouting of the area...

I know!!! ;-) There is a door 6 feet up on the house right above were I dug it.. so there were at least steps down if not a full porch. I was hunting it thinking it might be a good spot for coins and a button or two.. the plate surprised me!!

HA!! I was pretty happy.. and MonkeyBoy III was pumped!!! We did the double fist bump!! ... and then he started the "check here.. and here.. " ;-)

Oh.. I'll be covering every square foot... from multiple directions!! I only dug one plate last year, after a banner year in 2009.. so I am ready to set a new personal best!! This is the second plate I have kicked up with my foot when I was just cleaning off the debris on the ground to get a better look!!!

Hey MB, what part of the great state of Virginia do you call home? I was stationed there in the early 1980s. Stationed at
Ft. Lee, and did some digging there. Found my only US plate and a revolutionary plate on Ft. Lee....and did a lot of hunting in
Petersburg and Hopewell. A great state, and great people.
Have a great 2012.....keep us posted. Oh, I kicked the U.S. plate out from under some leaves near an old office on Ft. Lee.

AND....just remembered......I think you are on to something, about the porch. Virginia is famous for the wrap-around porches.
Beautiful, and you could find the right spot in the shade where there was a cool breeze blowing......that was before aircon.
Check all the way around the house. You just might have rang the JACKPOT buzzer.......I hope so.

Thanks!! Had not been out detecting that much.. and when I do go.. usually didn't dig much except 3 ringers and a couple eagle buttons. Plus I have been overloaded w/ work, home stuff etc...but it is great to back in the swing o things!!

Hey Hikeinmts.. I'm in Northern Virginia.. grew up here.. left for a few years and traveled the world and decided this was the bestplace on earth!!! Came here to raise my two boys. I grew up in a Victorian w/ a huge wrap around.. soo I'm all over that spot!!
