I had a reverse total surgery on my left shoulder yesterday morning. they released me around noon time yesterday. the pain up until this morning wasn't bad, but after the nerve blocker wore off this afternoon, the pain is pretty substantial and that is coming from someone who had a triple bypass and took nothing but Tylenol for the pain. physical therapy is coming this evening to get started and I'm not looking forward to it.

So I guess beach detecting tonight is off.

Hope the pain is manageable. I've had rotator surgery on both shoulders, that was bad enough.

Glad to hear the surgery is done, and you're back home.

Do what those physical terrorists tell you to, and the pain will be
less, soon.

I've got 2 bad rotator cuff's from too many years of shooting longbows
having too much draw weight, but so far I've avoided going under the
knife.

I had a right shoulder repair a year ago, not as involved in what you had done but painful none the less. I found icing it down really helped with the pain. I invested in an "ice machine" not one that makes ice but one with a large shoulder pad that strapped around the shoulder. I put four frozen water bottles in the ice machine well with water and it circulated cold water through the pad. Was able to sit in an executive chair and use the computer with the pad on. So glad I got it.

I had one of those for my rotator cuff surgeries, it did work for pain. I did not want to take the oxycodone pain killers they gave me, so I used the ice and ibuprofen. Still a long recovery.

They wanted to do it again on my right shoulder as it still gave a problem, they wanted to do open shoulder and Arthroscopic surgery at same time.

I asked surgeon if he was sure that would fix the problem, I was told it would be a year of rehabilitation and when I asked about any potential issues after surgery I was told there was a small possibility of having a frozen shoulder. I said screw that, never got surgery and found a different job that didnt bother shoulder as much, that was about 14 years ago.

I'm breaking the oxycodone in 1/4 of a pill and it at least puts me to sleep for about 3 hours. i tried the Tylenol, but it wouldn't put a dent in this pain. 10 inch incision from my shoulder down and 24 staples. they gave me ice packs to put on it, which helps some.

I'm being told I will need the same surgery, getting another MRI Friday morning. This will be the 3rd surgery on this shoulder. The blessing is at least it is not my swinging arm

i feel for you brother. you will find this reverse total shoulder surgery isn't like those other shoulder surgeries. they chisel off the ball and socket and reverse it and put in a metal ball.

yea this does not sound like a tremendous amount of fun. But the most important thing is getting it scheduled so it doesn't interfere with this falls DIV hunt!!! All I have to do is embrace the suck a little while longer

you are looking at 6 months up to a year for full recovery, at least that's what they told me. i mainly did the surgery to keep the fluid built up on my shoulder from getting infected and causing sepsis or something that could make it a lot worse.

Prayers sent for a speedy recovery. Just remember, when you are going through hell, keep going!

to give you a little hope here, your incision may be 3 inches or so because most reverse shoulders can be done by a 3 inch incision. mine was not normal because i had also ripped a bicep muscle length ways. so i assume they had to do some repair work there as well.

went and had the staples removed a day early. i start out patient physical therapy next Tuesday. the nurse who first checked the staples had counted 23, she couldn't count because it actually 28. she made the mistake of asking me how i was feeling today. I told her like a grizzly bear that had a porcupine crawl up its @$$. She said I guess the pain hasn't subsided a lot yet.
