Re: I'm trying to grow a giant Pumkin!
From the Days Gone By File: Bionic Pumpkin -- From old farmer who maintained his strawberry patch. Build a 5-Gal Bucket with soaker hose arrangement. Fill it up with nutrient solution -- Used to put old nails (for iron), fertilizer and growing solutions (Miracle Grow) in rainwater. Ring the plant and let it drip irrigate the area. Did things right, because his strawberries and berries were largest around.
Consider building small pen around plant, 2x2's with 1x2 frame covered with chicken wire or box arrangement. Anything to keep birds and animals out. Make sure you keep a dry bed of sand or soil under the pumpkin, so it does not rot. Used to do this with watermelons down here in Texas; always wanted giant one in the middle of the ice tub, may not taste great, but it looked good.
