Hey everyone,
I wasn't expecting to have much time detect this week but the weather was nice and some of my work can wait until next week.
I just snuck out for an hour yesterday and met a new neighbor. She thought it was awesome that I metal detect and told me to go for it. I managed 3 Wheats which got my brother and I over 200 FTY. Not bad! Only good date was a 21S.
Wanted to go back and finish the strips today but on my way out saw an interesting email. A neighbor lost her wedding rings over the weekend weeding and posted about needing help on the NextDoor app. Another neighbor whose yard I detected a couple months back referred me and she asked if I could help.
I started with finishing the sidewalk strips from yesterday where I picked up an Indian and a few Wheats. Crazy thing is, 30 minutes before I found the 1907 Indian my brother texted me that he'd just found a 1907 Indian at a different site. Wild!
So I head to my neighbor's house and she is clearly distressed. I asked her some questions and then got to work. Checked around the flower beds but didn't have any luck.
I moved to the compost bin where she'd thrown the weeds. I stick the pinpointer in and started getting hits. There was a lot of foil in there. After pulling out a couple pieces of trash and maybe only 10 minutes into my search total I saw a glint in the compost bin. Sure enough it was ring #1. I stuck the pinpointer in that general area after plucking it out and sure enough I got a hit. Ring #2.
She was so thrilled and asked if we could take a selfie so here it is!
She tried to pay me and I told her no way but asked if I might detect her yard. She told me to go at it.
No joke 10 minutes later I hit another Indian head penny. Her house is from 1945 although the surrounding homes are older. To put things in perspective I found 2 Indians all of last year. I found 2 today, 3 in the last week, and 4 in the last month.
I found a few more wheats, an old button with an interesting decal on it, and an old token. Found some other odds and ends too like a lighter, harmonica reeds, and a silver plated fork.
This is my third ring recovery and definitely most valuable one to date. So fun to see her so excited!
Tally on the coins today:
-2 Indians (1904, 1907)
-5 Wheats (notable are 20S, 27S)
-1 Token (says Genuine WD on one side and Charm from the Charmed Land on the other. No clue what it is.)
I ship out for Calgary in the morning. Fingers crossed that the ground is soft enough that I can find my King George V silver!
