Hello everybody

At last we managed to get out for a days hunting the day didn't start that good though a puncture on the Jeep put paid to a early start We finally got to a couple of fields we have been watching over the Winter, expecting them to have both been ploughed by now...they had but were both way to rough to detect
We adopted plan B and slipped back onto the Roman Villa site, although this field has yielded pretty poor results this year, it always has the potential to give-up something SPETACULAR...today it did...for me

Celtic Gold Stater .....Corieltavi Inscribed Stater VOLISIOS DVMNOCOVEROS..AD 20-35... I'm still in shock, I couldn't post last night, due to a Computer Virus ...and it didn't stop there

Michael chipped in with a broken Roman Silver, then a full one I plucked a cut half Hammered(long cross)..

Then Michael had his find of the day...a Viking embedded coin weight (needs carefull cleaning) these are a quite rare item and fetch a few quid

Next it was me turn with a nice Roman Silver laying right on the top not quite sure yet of the ID, needs a bit of cleaning, I will update the post as time Goes on

Anyway enjoy the pictures of our AMAZING 5 hours detecting the Yorkshire soil

Who knows may be more it was only about 3 hundred yards from were I found the outher one although a different field, it would have all been the same field before the hedge was there.

I now have the full ID of the Gold Stater...

Corieltauvi Tribe Gold Stater inscribed VOLISIOS DVMNOCOVEROS 35 - 43 AD. Van Arsdell 988-1. Dumnocoveros, son of Volisios, may have been king of the Parisi, Brigantes or Corieltauvi.

Glad to see I can still read the book OK, sometimes these varieties are quite difficult

Whats good about it, is its a well centred piece (on both sides)

When you get a Celtic Gold that is one of about 20 recorded (& yes you can times it by 10 for the unrecorded, so probably 200 or so out there) then you have a coin that many UK detectorist will search 10 years+ to get (I myself took 20 years). The reality is, that many will never get one

Yes quite Rare...only three Inscribed Staters recorded on UKFD Base, and there is 11 pages of Corieltavi Coins that have been recorded
