Decided to go out on an impromptu hunt after a little Google Earth research.

got on site and after 45 minutes started diggin BUTTONS!!!

The first signal was weird... come to find out... there was two in the same hole. As I had not found this sort of button before I pulled out my Droid X and started shooting video and taking pics. I had not even checked the hole for additional targets. Well, sure enough. There was another in there. I found a total of 6 buttons in a 6 foot diameter area.

After wrapping up my hunt and I was back at the truck, I decided that I had been a little to excited and I needed to go back over the area while my heart rate was lower. Sure enough.... 1 more button.. same area for a total of seven.

One of them I cant identify. It has a letter "H" on it and the whole face of the thing looks like the symbol used on helicopter landing pads.

Enough jabber... on to vid and pics!

arrrgh.... how do you correctly embed youtube on here?

It worked ok for me.

Can't help you with the youtube but it seems you found a coat.

Nice buttons, they will display well.

I found a batch like that. Figured either the kids lost a lot out of mom's sewing basket (not that likely) or a guy got home from Viet Nam and took his coat of the hard way (possible, but he probably regretted it later). However it happend, and the angst behind it, it is nice to find a batch, isn't it?

I wondered if these were found due to someone burning a piece of uniform.... I found no fabric.

Kinda breaks my heart finding the buttons this way... they should be still sewn to its original kit.... and cherished as a memory to service rendered.

I think I'll take these and zip tie them to huntin hat... so when people ask what I find... I can point.

That's a nice set of Great Seal buttons. Do they all have the same backmark? Can you post another picture of the "H" button?

I am of that time and military service wasn't so cherished of a memory for everyone. Hopefully, time has softened the person that hacked or burned his blouse, and probably his ribbons. It is a much better atmosphere for soliders coming home these days, but I suppose the rigors of duty are still as tough. I have spent a lot of time thinking about that button spill. I found one other button another time. That one had a cheerier story to go with it, I imagined. Solider home on leave with family jumping all over him in joy. When he was ready to return to duty in Europe, he found he was missing a button and had to go back to camp "out of uniform". I guess someday I will have to dig out those buttons, and see if there is any differnce in age between the single and the spill.
