I dug this today in an area that we have determined to be a Confederate camp. Any ideas?

I’m not sure what that is although I know for sure there are always strange What’s It’s in those camps.

found a lot of lead in camps, and a lot were chewed by squirrels and hogs
 
How big is this fragment Elvis, maybe re-post a pic of it next to a coin for scale. :icon_scratch:

Looks like the bottom edge has lettering on it?
 
It's a cut down sheet of lead from a larger section.
I find these all the time, no way of linking it to the camp, although if they were stealing lead from elsewhere to melt down into bullets, it maybe a handy size bit to carry.
