found this interesting little goodie today while hunting downtown Nashville, TN. It reads: " J. FRANKLAND & CO. DRY GOODS NASHVILLE, TENN " I did a small amount of research, and came across a newspaper article from May of 1868 with an article describing an after hours robbery that occurred at the business.

Found one today searched for it and this was the first thing that popped up. I know it's a ten year old post but on the outside chance you're still around...did you get any more info?

In the absence of @corpsman, I did a little checking. I would agree with it likely being a watch fob for advertising purposes. Joseph Frankland seems to have been the son of Jewish immigrants from Europe, born 18 October 1839 and died 7 January 1893.

A couple of bills of sale from 1883 proclaim his company “Jos. Frankland & Co.” as “jobbers in dry goods, notions &c”, detailing various haberdashery items sold, including: ladies white gloves, lace collars, garters, fabrics, fitments, steel thimbles and such in wholesale quantities. The Nashville address is given as “46 Public Square”.

Here's his and his wife’s grave memorial (from the ‘findagrave’ website) and it looks like he was a Freemason:
