I got this bottle as part of a collection from the estate of a fellow who spent many years finding and digging old privy sites in Nova Scotia. It is 6" high, 6 1/4" along the bottom and 2 5/8" thick at the widest. It reminds me of a decanter because the middle is slightly depressed giving the bottom an hourglass shape. The top rim is 2 3/16" across. There seems to be a very faint seam up one side that stops at the top and the neck and rim appear to be applied. There are lots of little bubbles in the glass and a smear line in the neck where it was finished. The bottle is not symetrical - the top rim cants slightly to one side. Overall it is just an interesting bottle - I would love to know how old it is and what it would have been used for.

Interesting bottle.

Does the bottle stand upright without supports? it looks like the base is rounded.

Yes the bottle does stand upright without support. I was leaning towards a decanter because the shape is quite easy to hang on to.

The large lip & cork/stopper it would have used are the clues.
