So I take the Nox to a different schoolyard (built in the 70's, but the whole place was a farm before that). This one dips down to a valley in the back of the school, so I decide to detect that area.
Anyway, in the middle of the valley I found a hotspot. Out popped a first year 46' Roosevelt Dime, then a couple of wheats, then a 1920 Merc. I worked out in concentric circles and dug 13 wheat pennies total. Everything you see here was found within the same 50' radius:
The religious medallion is marked STERLING HMH, a company that's been making religious medals since 1910.
Whenever I went out of the area, the coins got more modern. Whatever happened in the center of that little valley... who knows? But I'm going back there again though, to listen hard for the squeak of my first Standing Liberty or Barber Quarters.
