Iron masking with etrac

How do you mask iron with the Etrac ? I buried a steel bolt with a common penny and etrac will not hit on either I run the coil of my O8 across them and get a very dig-able signal I mean the etrac doesn't make a sound ? Any help would be greatly appreciated
