Iron rings and links

My buddy found this in what was once a farm until around 1970. I believe it’s iron. It is pretty heavy. There are no makers marks on it. I used a can of soda for size purposes. He attempted to remove some of the rust with Naval jelly which explains the whitish color. It was really closer to black and rusty when it was found.
I wonder if it was part of a wagon, a farm implement, or maybe something that was used for towing. I have found iron rings like these before. Usually on farms.

looks like drag chains that were used to drag behind the cutters on grain drills to cover the seed.

I agree with Mike, likely 'plow related' hardware chain. :thumbsup:
I find a lot of these on farm sites from the early 1900s.
