iron stirrup

Yesterday i found what looks like an old iron stirrup, its in pretty good shape. anybody have any tips on cleaning and preserving it?

I'm new at it but Try Electrolysis. Works great for cleaning relics. Here a link on how to build 1 for like $15 to $20 or cheaper. Personally I had everything needed laying around the house to build 1 (cash on hand needed $0) http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,10898.0.html

Any other way than electrolysis?

You can try rust remover jelly found at hardware stores.

A rock tumbler does a good job if you can fit the piece into the drum.
