What is it made of? It looks to be copper.

You didn't find this in a CAVE, did you?
:-\ no,
yes its copper,
i found it inland, about 2 miles up the harbour. at least 3 miles from the nearst cave.
others we found in the old homesteads.
the question is not, where i found it ??? but ,what is it ???

I wouldnt think they would use copper for armor plating. Its just a blank piece of sheet copper. Probably came off a roof of a homestead. Can you show a side view of the thickness? Look carefully for a coppersmith mark. Possibly an old print plate. :dontknow: http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,248411.0.html

Who believes it is mail? Do any of your pieces have holes for attachment?

None of the plates i have found have holes.
The big piece has holes, but not the small ones.
cedar bark was woven over the big one and now i think the small ones where lashed in, think about it, its like pockets, you slide them in, if you are going in battle. , it would make it easy to repair and light when you run far away. :laughing9:
after thinkin bout it, we got 3 where we found the big piece.
as pointed out , the piece has 2 chop marks in it, which would explain why it is laying on the ground.
you can see what my diggin tool did to the copper, think what a sward or knife would do. :help:
the guy makes it, the guy goes and fixes it and is ready for battle.
on this page you can see some cedar cloths, think cedar armor. :laughing9:
its a real cool read.
