Hello! My name is Nick! I found this a couple months ago at a second Seminole war site (1838-1842) metal detecting. Since I found it, I thought it was a large cent turned into A love token, But I think it could be a convict token! Do any of you guys know exactly what this is? I can't really make out a lot on it, so I tried to outline the letters a little bit. On the other side, There is an S stamped on it. Any ideas? Thanks!

there are the letters A and B upside down at the bottom right. Very neat piece, wish I could read it but it looks as if you arent getting all of the disk in the frame. You can do a lot with a photo by taking several pics from different angles and different light sources and then put it through some contrast doctoring in Picasso or something similar.

It may (or may not) help the legibility to dust it with flour and brush off the top surface, which hopefully leaves a bit in the engraved portions. Doesn't always work but sometimes works wonders.

I already tried it, but the lines are too fine. Thanks!

I've always been under the impression a convict token was based on subject matter, and if that's the case and if you can never figure out the words, the best you could do is to include it based on how it's made. If there's love tokens made the same way then there would be no way to ever know.

Don't overlook that it may be another language.
Considering it was in Seminole area, have someone with a Spanish background take a look. A word or two may pop out to them.
But considering the name, don't discount French.
Just a thought...
