Last winter I was detecting at a house that was built in 1783. I found this and I am curious to know what it is. It is 3 2/8 of an inch long and 3/4 of an inch wide. Is it a whistle, musical instrument part, or something else? Any answer, even if it is a hocus-pocus answer would be greatly appreciated! Please excuse any grammar/spelling errors, I am 13. Thank you!

Have you cleaned it out and tried blowing through it. Looks like it might be a whistle???

I'm betting on a whistle. Ancient armies sometimes used them to signal for troop movements.

Looks a bit small, but, it might be the remains of a keg/barrel tap.

If it’s brass it wouldn’t be much of a punch.

One end had a pin through it to secure something...
A first guess would be an umbrella/parasol stave is what was pinned ,and the oval hole had a button through it. But I don't know either....l.o.l..

Are both ends open? What is the material visible through the hole in the side of the piece?

It looks like the larger end is stopped up with iron - The hole in the middle has a pinch of dirt and some of the iron. Thanks for commenting!

I found something just about identical to yours a few months back, but bent pretty good. I think the ID was the tip of a powder flask.
