Hello fellow metal detectors. I'm having an issue with my bounty hunter tracker IV. It beeps randomly. I went detecting Sunday and I had tons of false reads because it just wouldn't stop beeping. Even when I point the detector in the air it beeps. I've already replaced the batteries. I've messed with the sensitivity setting. I'm assuming my coil is bad. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Well, let me be frank...
I see you are a new member, but got on Tnet 3 years ago....so I assume (perhaps off base) you have been hunting with the bounty hunter for 3 years? I used to own one, but it's been years since I've upgraded to the Garrett machines....
Maybe the bounty hunter has run its corse, and time for an upgrade.
Just throwing it out there, as I can't help with any constructive advice...

Good luck brother...

Check coil connection, and if you have a coil cover on take it off and clean it, may have something in there

Sometimes if you have two 9volt batteries you will get falsing like that if they are inserted wrong. Trying reversing the order.

Try a different area maybe? Could be emi

All great tips, I see that falsing also when the coil windings get wet inside. I would consider like mentioned looking for a AT Pro, and not knocking the BH because one of my old land hunting partners found a 1846 Gold coin with his worth more then 15 grand.

Thank you all for your comments. I've only had the detector a year and have logged about 20 hours of detecting with it. The beeping happens in my own home and out in the middle of nowhere. I have submerged the coil in a river, so maybe I screwed up the coil. The manual does say waterproof. Guess not.

Cheap bargain brand batteries do that as well always use Duracell or energizer
